Mindful Meditation Makes You Complacent
Non Judgment, detachment, radical acceptance- all of these tools of mindfulness are for helping you embrace life on life’s terms and understand that there are some things you cannot change. There is a difference between condoning and accepting. You can accept something as it is without condoning what it is. You don’t have to be complacent in order to be nonjudgmental and accepting. In fact, you have to not be complacent with how you are currently relating to a situation in order to move into mindfulness.
Mindfulness Isn’t Not Religious
Buddhism and mindfulness are deeply entwined, but it is not the sole root of mindfulness. The Buddha only discovered how mindfulness worked for him, but he certainly did not invent it. Mindfulness is a spiritual practice, but not a religious one. If you are practicing mindfulness, you are not adhering to any dogma or deity.
Mindfulness Doesn’t Do Anything
This is perhaps the most damaging myth of all. Mindfulness is being scientifically proven to provide a wealth of benefits both physical and psychological.
