Our interdisciplinary team of professionals, dedicated support staff and consultants all bring their expertise to treatment at Aurora. Whether it’s a clinical staff providing evidence-based modalities, a chef practicing their artistry with food or a maintenance staff tending the facility with care, we all share one goal, to provide you with a respectful, therapeutic and supportive environment. Many of our staff are in sustained recovery and understand the challenges that you are facing. We bring empathy, expertise and encouragement to each individual in our care. Each person on the Aurora team has been trained in best practices for effective, confidential treatment protocol. Michael Bruneau

Mr. Bruneau, a self made entrepreneur, specializing in property development in Manitoba and Ontario for over 40 years. Until recently, his main focus has been the hospitality industry. When the opportunity presented itself in 2015 he built and financed Aurora Recovery Centre as the original founder and chairman. Shortly after, Aurora was sold to a group of investors, and now six years later Michael has taken Aurora Recovery Centre back under his control and leadership. Michael is a visionary with a heart for people. For personal reasons, Michael has always had an interest in mental health and well-being. He has proudly put together a very highly motivated team to treat addictions and mental illness with a more holistic therapy plan customized for the individual's needs. With Michael’s leadership Aurora Recovery Centre will build a brighter future, give back to the community, build communities, save lives and save families.

Lisa has been a part of the Aurora Team since 2017.

Lisa Hancharek - Director of Activities and Events

Lisa has been a part of the Aurora Team since 2017. Previous to her time at Aurora, she was self employed for over 20 years as a professional theatre designer in the areas of sets, costume and lighting. She has also been employed as a visual arts instructor at the St. Albert Arts Centre, as well as a design instructor at University of Alberta, and Grant MacEwan University. After spending decades traveling for work she decided to settle down in her hometown of Gimli in December of 2016 where shortly after she found employment at Aurora.

Lisa’s role has grown from the reception desk and has become multifaceted. When the need arose, she took the initiative to organize and plan weekly activities and events for the residents. The creator of Kraft Korner, Lisa enjoys seeing the clients at Aurora discover their artistic side, a hidden talent or learn a new skill. Lisa encourages clients to open themselves up to new things and find an artistic outlet to reconnect with their families and friends.

Her goal is to help clients discover new healthy hobbies. With her new role at Aurora she looks forward to planning more activities and events for the centre, the clients, and the alumni. She knows the importance of connection and community and loves to see residents rediscover themselves in their recovery.

Patty Medd - Nurse Practitioner

Patty has a BA Honours, Masters of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience working in addiction medicine. She brings over 25 years of healthcare experience, in both family practice and mental health.

Her focus in addiction medicine has been serving substance use disorders in residential treatment for Addictions Foundation of Manitoba. Her main roles involved providing medical assessment, primary care, withdrawal management and treatment of co-occurring disorders.

Patty has also worked in addictions research and as an educator promoting best practices in addiction medicine. She is dedicated and committed to those persons with addiction and mental health issues on their journey to recovery.

I am a Registered Nurse working both in the United States and Canada since 2015. I began my nursing career working in North Dakota on a Cardiac Floor. After seeing first hand how our health, both mental and physical greatly affect long-term outcomes, I received my Manitoba Fitness Council certification in Group Fitness and Cycling.
Since relocating back to Canada, I have worked in the NICU, and while on maternity leave received my certification as an Aesthetician to perform injectable treatments and IV therapy, as well as found a passion working in the Detox Unit at Aurora Recovery Centre. I believe although our past plays an important part in who we are, we're all capable of healing and can create a bright future with a supportive, healthy environment and people in our lives. Working at Aurora Recovery Centre has truly solidified this belief for myself and after seeing first hand how recovery is, and can be one of the hardest things someone and their loved ones go through, it is a privilege and has become a passion in helping.

Jacqui Kennedy - Massage Therapist

Jacqui has been a registered massage therapist since 2006.

Over the years she has completed many courses of continued education to further her skills in massage therapy as well as mental health.  In 2019 she completed the mental health first aid course, adding to other modalities of understanding the body and mind (such as Craniosacral therapy, deep tissue, Thai massage, and annual CPR).

She grew up in Gimli, Manitoba, but had her family in Winnipeg.  When she moved back to Gimli the opportunity to work at Aurora presented itself and she has been working with the amazing people at the centre since 2017.

Jacqui says she is so grateful to be a part of this team and that she always looks forward to meeting the people that are staying at the centre.

My name is Jeri Jamieson, I’m a local of Gimli, Manitoba!  I’m the newest Team Member of Aurora Recovery Centre in Gimli, Manitoba!  I’m a Sober Activist,  a Proud Métis Citizen, a Recovery Warrior and a Domestic Abuse Survivor!

I am also a World Natural Bodybuilding Federation Pro Bikini Athlete & Fitness Coach! (WNBF Canada/ INBF: the ONLY federation that is heavily tested for 10 years Drug Free from anabolic steroid use) I’m very knowledgeable in the entirety of Natural Bodybuilding Techniques such as; Proper whole-food Diet & Nutrition/ Weightlifting & Training/Muscle Recovery/Meditation/Traditional Spirituality as well as 12-Step Recovery Programs!

This ambitious Fitness Career has been astronomical for my personal growth & development. I’m now entering a long Off-Season where I plan to continue my fitness training; all while sharing my experience, strength & Hope with persons who need it most.. Parents, fellow Indigenous and all ethnicities—who are struggling with addictions; Abuse Survivors—reformed Felons—any persons who are willing to turn their life around from the destructive patterns to a future with hope and longevity; not only surviving but thriving in the areas of self-confidence, personal growthand development, incredible body results & many health & fitness successes!!

On Easter Monday of 2023, I joined the Incredible staff here at Aurora as CCS, as well as offering Reiki & Integrated energy healing sessions, to those interested.

I am grateful and  honoured to have the opportunity to use my skills, experience and wisdom to work alongside the Councillors & Team here at Aurora, in supporting clients with facing & overcoming challenges, adversities and heal their history. With Many clients opening to the vital Integration and emotional work of feeling and becoming the best creative versions of themselves.  

 
I began my own personal development Journey , to understand & heal my own history. Coming from a family, generations and partners with addictions and dysfunctions,  I took to Learning new ways to support myself and my kids with great inquiry and enthusiasm.   Experiencing the impact, first hand,  my focus shifted to learning many alternative healing modalities over the years,  earning myself eligibility as a Holistic health practitioner. 
 
I have now trained and studied with over 100 facilitators, teachers and leaders in the field. Spending 1000’s of hours, on going in participating and facilitating circle work, building and maintaining successful relationships and group dynamics. 
 
 I received a Traditional Reiki Masters degree in 1998, along with various other healing modalities, where the majority of my work was channeling and supporting people suffering life threatening illnesses and seniors with disabilities. 
 
In 2011 I became a Certified Hypnotherapist, also trained in NLP, Time Line Therapy & Empowerment Coaching. 
In 2015 I went on to receive certification in Raindrop & HotStone (bio-science & thermal) Therapy.

I have always had a great passion for the Human condition & teaching Consciousnesses  Education, as well as being an Intuitive Channel.

Tara Campbell - Counsellor, Knowledge Keeper, Indigenous Advocate

I started as a youth care worker in the early 90's, my interest changed to helping reunite and keep children who were in care with their families and this led me to W.R.H.A. and Metis CFS.I noticed how family violence was affecting the families I was working with and I became a domestic abuse counsellor and worked at a woman's shelter for 10 years before coming to Aurora. At the woman's shelter I found many of the women and our male clients as well had addictions as a coping mechanism for the abuse they were going through. At Aurora I find many of the clients healing from family violence.
My goals are to continue to learn in the areas of addiction and as a knowledge keeper. I see my achievements every day in being able to help how I can in our clients paths to recovery. I am honored to be a small part of their journey.
My heart is at Aurora, in our clients, our team and the sacred land and lodge. A fun fact is I like to sing and help clients have sober fun on our karaoke nights here. My spare time consists of family / friends time , helping run a drum group in Gimli, where we meet bi weekly. and going to concerts.

Boozhoo, my name is High Flying Eagle woman, and Black Thunderbird Warrior woman, of the turtle clan, my english name is April Wilson.

I am a knowledge holder, I don't use knowledge keeper because I don’t keep this knowledge or gifts to myself- I share them. (My elders teaching) Our traditional way of life gives us strength, holds us accountable to ourselves and we re-learn discipline; it also teaches us kindness, support of one another, laughter, love and Spirit. I am a Sundancer and a Warrior dancer (night dance).

My husband & I have been foster parents since 2005, we have 5 beautiful children and I was a youth support worker for 3 years prior.
Creator is amazing, I give many thanks for his kind and loving ways. These ways help me walk in the Good Life Journey, Mino-Bimaadiziwin. I believe in prayer and our plant medicines for healing. I am still learning our Sacred way of life- I know so little.

Aurora is a beautiful place, where I share these gifts; here, I am a scaabe ikwe to the members, who we build up, and who need our love and support. We share with them the gifts of sweat lodge, medicine picking, drum making (my awesome co-worker does this), skirt making and the beautiful gift of song (my other amazing co-worker teaches us this) We heal from the inside out.

Ashley started her career as a behavioural therapist working with children with autism. She helped to develop programs as well as implement therapy to help children and their families live life to the best of their ability. Ashley developed many personal connections with her clients that she continues to see flourish today. Ashley moved on to work as a psychiatric nursing assistant and personal development counsellor before joining the team at Aurora. This is Ashley's dream career, she is fulfilled and feels proud to come into work every day.
Ashley has always been passionate about helping. Compassionate by nature, she has dedicated her career to helping improve the lives of others. One day Ashley would like to open a treatment facility or sober living home for families suffering from addiction and trauma.
Fun fact, born in Churchill, MB she enjoys travelling, has been to Europe and the Caribbean. Her favourite way to spend free time is outdoors, hiking and camping in the summer, and skiing or skating in the winter.

Sometimes we may take on narratives that impact us negatively, making us feel stuck, out of control, or overwhelmed.
As a counsellor, it is my role to help you uncover the conditions for healing and help you learn how to create or maintain new ways of being that provide you with the confidence and building blocks to create a story that you want to be yours.
I believe that each of us is the expert in our own lives; and that given the right conditions, this knowledge can be revealed from within. That is why I prioritize providing a safe environment that emphasizes the therapeutic relationship that allows you to feel understood and grounded, resulting in exploration, healing, and finding new and healthy ways of coping with life challenges.
I am an empathetic individual who wants nothing but the best for her clients, I offer many facets of healing by using an integrated theoretical approach that allows clients to grow in the ways that they see fit. I firmly believe that there are many different paths that lead to the desired destination, and therefore I practice in such a way.
I am a devoted mother of three beautiful little humans. I have a passion for the wellbeing of others and myself. I practice living life mindfully, learning new things, spending the majority of my time outdoors, and when I am not out galivanting in nature, you can find me creating a new piece of artwork, or taking a new course or workshop to add to my toolbox.
I am an individual who has experienced a variety of life challenges, who knows what its like to feel stuck, and who has cultivated the help needed to overcome and grow from these life challenges. Overcoming my own personal challenges ignited my passion for helping others even more so, that I gained the knowledge needed to help others overcome the hurdles in life and aid alongside their journey.
My favorite thing about helping and supporting others, is the opportunity to be a part of their journey while they cultivate hope, and recelliency throughout their recovery.

She received her education at the U of W in Social Work and Conflict Resolution. Staci has an Applied Counselling Certificate, specializing in addictions through the U of M. She has extensive experience working with high at risk youth, marginalized people and with people who suffer with addictions and mental health. Staci has worked extensively with families to help heal the family unit.
She feels honoured being able to walk alongside others and to assist them on their healing journey.

Employed at Aurora since September 2022,  Kyle was inspired to get into this line of work due to the impact certain individuals left on him. Being in the program of recovery he also wants to be able to help people avoid the long drawn out suffering that he endured and the pain he put his family through.

His favourite thing about working at Aurora is getting to see someone’s journey first hand and seeing them change for the better, getting their lives and family's back.

Also an alumni of the program, he wanted to work at Aurora because out of the many treatment programs he had been through, Aurora seemed to be the one that worked:

“The fact that Aurora offers such an individualized approach to each client for their recovery fits perfectly with my own beliefs on/about recovery. Plus Aurora got me more in touch with my Indigenous heritage as I was a city boy and had no connection to my culture before coming thru as a client. Now I get to help my people every day to break the cycle.”

His goals are to further his education learning about the human brain and psychology.

Tom Kowalchuk - Continuing Care Coordinator

Tom found the gift of recovery with the support of Aurora in 2018 and is a very grateful Aurora Alumni. Following many years as a career professional in the golf and turf industry, he made the decision to join the Aurora team in 2019 as a member of the support staff. Tom is fully trained as a recovery coach and has since held the role of Aurora Extended Care Coordinator as well as Addictions Counsellor. He feels very passionate about recovery and all that it continues to give him. In supporting others on their road to recovery, Tom has turned this passion into his purpose.
Through lived experience, skills, and training, Tom connects with and supports Aurora members along each stage of their recovery path.

Geri Lawrence - Trauma Therapist

Geri Is a compassionate therapist who has been working for many years with individuals and groups with a focus in addiction and mental health. She has also been one of the co-founders of Vancouver friends for life which supports individuals with life challenging illnesses. Geri is a somatic therapist and underwent a 4 and ½ year study through the Boulder Colorado institute of traumatic studies and is certified through this institute. She also completed an additional two year study with Dr. Janine Fisher in complex Trauma and dissociative disorders and is certified as a Clinical Complex Trauma Counsellor and is recognized by the international Association of trauma Professionals. She has also just completed a one year study in compassionate inquiry with Dr. Gabor Matte. Geri is honored to hold sacred space for those who would like to be curious about their well being.

What I am passionate about is that this is amazing support that is being offered!!! In the work of addiction, we can be warriors in our work to destigmatize addiction and bring a compassionate lens to support clients and families.

Tyler Huston is a First Responder Paramedic, Mental Health & Addictions Nurse, Certified Occupationally Aware Clinician and Director of the BreatheFirst program. Tyler has spent years working with clients and patients from all walks of life in
community, private and hospital settings as well as at several
of Canada’s premier Addiction Recovery Treatment Centres
and Healing Houses.

BreatheFirst is a Two-Eyes Seeing approach which utilizes the latest in modern medical science paired with land-based teachings. Non-pharmacological, evidence-
based solutions along with outdoor experiences through the
CALMS approach Connecting with Air, Land, Mountains and Sea.
Breathing disorders are unfortunately all too common in today’s society due to a number of
contributing factors from anxiety, diet, chronic stress, trauma, physical injury, screen time,
addiction and other physical diseases and mental health disorders. Signs and symptoms can
manifest and present as both physical and psychological conditions.
The Breath Control Therapy (BCT) methodology is based upon the following pillars:
 Biochemistry and composition of the blood
 Biomechanics of ventilation and functional breathing patterns
 Positive psychology, concentration and motivational techniques
 Somatic therapy and psychophysiological connection

Hello, I am an addictions and dual diagnosis specialist. I am a certified addictions counsellor (ICADC, CCAC) and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) & CSAT Supervisor (CSAT-S) specializing in sexual compulsion and relationship/love addiction. Currently, I am completing a doctoral program in clinical sexology at The International Institute of Clinical Sexology (IICS). I recently was a presenter at the May 2017 IITAP Symposium. I have worked as a chemical dependency counsellor and sex addiction therapist in a dual diagnosis inpatient treatment center and in private practice located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

My counselling style incorporates several therapeutic approaches including the IITAP, Pat Carnes Sex Addiction Task model (CSAT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy Utilizing my own personal experience and journey of recovery from addiction, my philosophy prioritizes active participation, relationship building, flexible and adaptable methods, inquiry, and reflection based learning. I have worked as an Addiction Counselor since 2017, where I first was employed with Aurora for 3 years. I went on to British Columbia and was an Addiction Counselor at a facility outside of Prince George, before returning to my Aurora family. My goals and aspirations at Aurora are to help people find a solution to addiction through the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (focusing primarily on the program outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous), the disease model of addiction, motivational interviewing and evidence based treatment modules. I feel the element of success as an Addiction Counselor in a treatment centre is measured by the people that become willing, honest and open-minded about the challenges to their thinking and actions they are doing that treatment presents to them. I work at Aurora because this place has helped transform the lives of many people and their families and as a recovered alcohol/addict, I see the value that Aurora offers.

A fun fact about me is that I grew up on a southern Manitoba grain, cattle and honey farm and am quite an experienced apariast! My favourite way to spend my free time is to spend that time with my children, grandchildren and family. The most important part of my free time is spent with the fellowship of AA, passing on a message of recovery so that I can enjoy my life and spend time with my loving family.

Nicole is your first point of contact at Aurora whether it be greeting you as you walk in the door or when you reach out to us by phone. Nicole makes sure you are taken care of whether you are needing help or if you have any questions,she can direct you to staff or on to our admissions team to assist you on your recovery journey.

Being at the front desk, she also assists clients with any concerns they may have, helping them feel comfortable and letting them know we are here to help in any way we can. Besides booking appointment for clients, she also manages out Tuck Shop(canteen).

Heather began her education in Conflict Resolution and Sociology at the University of Winnipeg while working as a Social Work Assistant for Metis Child & Family Services. Wanting to make a difference in the corporate structuring of the child welfare system, she engaged in a finance program through The Knowledge Bureau and became certified in corporate accounting, payroll, & financial auditing. While doing her practicum for finance, Heather worked on accounts for child welfare agencies and northern medical boarding homes, learning the importance of the financial structures behind the agencies.
In working for a public practice firm, Heather’s career took a turn towards financial management in the HVAC industry and then the hospitality industry where she became a General Manager for rural hotels and restaurants.
Moving to the Gimli area brought her to start working at Aurora in December 2023. She is excited to be back in the public service industry where she can utilize her financial skills in an environment close to her heart; and watch the family reunification programs at Aurora grow and succeed.

Silvia Joined the Aurora team in 2017 as the Client Care Lead which aided clients in their recovery progress consistent with the purpose, principles and philosophy of Aurora Recovery Centre. Some of her responsibilities is to be actively available to clients needing assistance providing conflict resolution, de-escalation and problem solving for clients. As alternative therapy she applies ear acupuncture, which is an effective way to treat many health conditions including addictions. She works collaboratively with the team of client care members in the best interest of the clients and provides training to new staff joining the CCS team.

She is part of the Health and Safety Committee, which is affiliated to Safe Work Manitoba. Silvia's certification is B.A in Psychology, specialized in behavioral Psychology.

Silvia's goals are to provide support and advocacy for clients and is committed to supporting their recovery.

Silvia believes in the healing changes that clients experience day by day and the changes they are creating when they engage in the program.
Some of the things Silvia enjoys is cooking, especially Mexican Food. She gardens and she loves dancing and is very active and appreciates
the summer time.

My name is Laura R. Tryhuk. I am the daughter of elderly parents, the mother of 2 adult children, a grandmother to an athletic teenager, and a fur Mom.  I have an adopted dog, two cats, and some silky chicks.

I worked at the University of Manitoba for over 23 years as an office assistant, then for seven years at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford. I worked casually for the federal government, Inwood Golf Course, Riverdale Place Homes in Arborg, Coop Produce department in Arborg, Coop Convenience Stores in Teulon and Arborg and Teulon Grocery store.

I completed up to and including Toastmaster Silver designate.  I practice Reiki, and I collect sea shells for the wall art I create and I make animal figurines.  

My adult life has been affected by alcohol misuse.  I have a goal to go to Egypt to see the pyramids.  I have a trip planned for 2024, this trip is to recognize my over 25 years of no drinking.

He then moved up to be a Resource Coordinator for Home Care and remained there for 5 years. With a love for the arts and costuming, Nathan followed his heart which gave him the opportunity to become a costumer for Cirque Du Soleil which led him to work in film and television where he is now a recognized Costume Designer in Manitoba. With wanting more of a work life balance Nathan decided to go back to his caregiving roots which is when he found Aurora and is happy to join the team as a Client Care Specialist. Nathan is also a choreographer and member of a local nonprofit theatre company which  allows him to continue to be creative and care for clients in the community.

I am also a World Natural Bodybuilding Federation Pro Bikini Athlete & Fitness Coach! (WNBF Canada/ INBF: the ONLY federation that is heavily tested for 10 years Drug Free from anabolic steroid use) I’m very knowledgeable in the entirety of Natural Bodybuilding Techniques such as; Proper whole-food Diet & Nutrition/ Weightlifting & Training/Muscle Recovery/Meditation/Traditional Spirituality as well as 12-Step Recovery Programs!

This ambitious Fitness Career has been astronomical for my personal growth & development. I’m now entering a long Off-Season where I plan to continue my fitness training; all while sharing my experience, strength & Hope with persons who need it most.. Lauren is originally from the outskirts of Neepawa, Manitoba where her family still lives. Her favourite things consist of spending time with her family, taking her dog for walks, and working on the family farm. She moved to Brandon after high school to begin working and eventually begin her career. She started her career as a childcare assistant, working with kids for a year. Later she was accepted into the Social Service Work program at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon.

During her program, Lauren learned about mental health, addiction, counselling, and Indigenous Studies, amongst many more important topics in the social service field. She also completed two practicums with social service agencies in Brandon, both which primarily focused on substance use and addiction. In 2023, she graduated with a diploma and shortly after began working at Aurora Reunification Village in July.

Currently, Lauren enjoys her role as a client care specialist. Looking ahead, she plans to focus on counseling and working with the youth who reside at Aurora Reunification Village. She feels that one of the most rewarding aspects of working at Aurora Reunification Village is witnessing and being a part of the process of reuniting children with their parents and seeing families overcome challenges and make positive changes in their lives.

I graduated with honors from the CDI College Addictions and Community Service Worker program, and have hands-on experience working with women and mothers at the St. Raphael Wellness Centre. I have also completed specialized training in co-occurring disorders, allowing me to provide comprehensive care to clients facing complex challenges.
 
With a strong background in the health and medical field, I have accumulated 15 years of valuable experience that I bring to the Aurora team. My decision to transition into addiction counseling stems from a personal connection to the struggles and heartache that often accompany loved ones with substance use disorders. This firsthand experience has fueled my dedication to supporting individuals in their journey towards healing and recovery.
 
In my practice, I prioritize meeting clients where they are at in their recovery journey, and place a strong emphasis on healing the nervous system and understanding the impact of our family of origin on our behaviors and choices. Rosetta has been working in Manitoba’s Addiction and Mental Health  Community since 2015 and has experience in community and residential treatment centers, private rehabilitation centres, advocating for families  and consulting on the needs for resources in Manitoba and working with youth in our school system. 

Rosetta has a passion for bringing awareness to the overwhelming  amount  of individuals and families dealing with addiction and overdoses in Manitoba and to end the stigma surrounding these issues.

Rosetta and her Women’s Continuing Recovery Group were the founders of the very first Recovery Day Winnipeg in 2018. Recovery Day Winnipeg has now evolved into a huge annual event every September thanks to Aurora Recovery Centres support as well as other organizations 

Rosetta works to advocate for those navigating difficult systems,   and for those who require help finding resources and  treatment. She supports families who have been impacted by addiction and have had their children removed from their home to work towards the reunification of the family. 

Rosetta works with youth who are themselves dealing with mental health and addiction or have friends and family members who are.

Rosetta believes that there is not only  one solution to finding a sober healthy life and supports   and  will work along with a clients network of supports who share the same goal to end the stigma, raise awareness and support anyone without judgement regardless of gender, race, religion or socio economic background.

Erin McFee - Program Director Thompson

I started in the field of recovery in 2016 working for 5 years at The Addictions Foundation Of Manitoba Women's Residential Treatment Program as a Residential Care worker. Then worked for Main Street project at the Women's detox as a support worker before moving out to Gimli, MB I Worked for almost 1 year as a CCS at Aurora before recently beginning this new position as Clinical Associate.
 
I have taken many of the social work courses through AFM as well as Recovery Coach Training through The St. Rafael Wellness Centre.
My goal is to be able to give back and be there for people just as people were there for me during my
struggle with addiction. "It takes a village" I wake up every day with the commitment to stay sober.

When I come to work, I am among a community that I refer to as "my people". People who have struggled and are desperate to live a life free of addiction and to have a life of purpose and contentment. People who have a passion to help others. Every day is different at Aurora, but just being a part of such a wonderful, caring organization makes me feel an enormous amount of gratitude.

Rhonda Anderson

Rhonda Anderson - Medical Administrator

Rhonda has a 27-year background in the healthcare field, having worked in diverse roles. She has been employed with Aurora Recovery Programs for five years as the Detox Supervisor of the Gimli location and recently joined the Aurora Reunification Village in Thompson, MB, as a Medical Associate. Having experienced a successful personal recovery and losing family members from addictions, she shares her own experiences and strategies to provide effective life and addiction coaching to program participants. In
addition, she supports individuals by providing crisis intervention and leveraging her Indigenous heritage to connect with program participants. She coordinates the medical needs of program participants and their children to ensure seamless care.
 
Prior to joining Aurora Recovery Centre, Rhonda acquired 22 years of experience at Seven Oaks Health and Social Services Centre, focusing on the Emergency Department as a nursing assistant. She supported ER physicians and nurses with acute patients, including
those with addictions, in providing superior medical care. She aided triage nurses in prioritizing patient care based on acuity and coordinated patient admissions, training, transfers and discharges. Additionally, she floated to Intensive Care, Operating Room, Psychiatry, Medicine, Surgery, Observation, Dialysis and other departments.
 
Rhonda, with a team of four colleagues, established a new Seven Oaks ER Department by designing layouts, planning departmental processes, and making equipment and supply procurement decisions to allocate a $5 million capital budget. She was also selected as a staff trainer/subject matter expert on the EDIS electronic charting system.
 
Due to her tremendous efforts in leading projects, outstanding clinical and administrative performance and being an inspirational team resource, the senior leadership team selected her for a prestigious Achievement Award.
 
Rhonda has completed extensive post-secondary training, including paramedic, Indigenous awareness, Lean management, and numerous medical terminology, medical and science courses. She is passionate about contributing to the client recovery journey and cherishes cultivating relationships with program participants to make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Jodi Hubka

Jodi Hubka - Client Care Specialist Supervisor

Originally from Virden Man, Jodi worked as an agency HCA up North and also worked in the psychiatric ward  with patients who  had mental health conditions  and addictions. She also worked at the Hope North treatment center for the youth in Thompson,MB.

Jodi joined the Brandon team in  September 2023 and is now at the Thompson facility as the CCS supervisor.

She enjoys helping clients with their sobriety journey as well as watching them reunite with their families.

Mitch Scarth - Maintenance & Wellness Coach

I am a grateful member of the Aurora Alumni, I attended the program at Aurora with a completely open mind to all the wonderful experiences they have to offer someone who struggles with addiction. In doing so I was greatly successful with my program of recovery, I completed the program and proceeded to extended care where I excelled in growing into the person I always knew I could be. I thank Aurora for giving me the tools to take my life back, In recovery I found my passion for wanting to help others through their journey to sobriety. I now work at Aurora as the Health and Wellness Coach motivating others in recovery to live healthy sober lives teaching the fundamentals of fitness and proper routine of healthy living. 
Fitness has always been a huge part of my life, I have been active in team sports, martial arts, and weight lifting. Successfully competing in bodybuilding as a MABBA Lightweight athlete adhering to strict diet and training regiments. Combining my love for fitness with my passion to help people I am excited to have this opportunity to bring my past experiences as well as knowledge of health and recovery to the Aurora Team. 
My future goals are to continue to grow in the field of recovery by going back to school to obtain my addictions counselling degree so that I can further help people who are struggling with the disease of addiction.
